CHESS TOURNAMENT

SATURDAY, MAY 21, 2011



George Washington Middle School, home of the Mighty Bobcats, together with the Laredo Chess Club extend a warm invitation to all scholastic chess players to participate in the school’s third annual chess tournament. This is an open, non-rated event for players K-12. Students may compete in their corresponding section: primary, elementary, middle or high school. There will also be a special section for college/adult players. This is the final tournament of the 2010-2011 school year and is meant as a stress-free, fun contest. Washington Middle School principal is Mr. David H. Gonzalez. Event facilitator is assistant principal, Ms. Basilia B. Vela. Members of the Laredo Chess Club will direct.



Site: Washington Middle cafeteria located at 10306 Riverbank Dr (parking available at the front of the school).

Format: 4 round Swiss System tournament (round-robins will be set up if necessary)

Sections: There will be four sections: primary (K-3), elementary (4-5), middle (6-8) and high school (9-12). A special fifth section for parents, coaches and college students will also be included. TD reserves right to combine sections.





Pre-registration: Complete form below and e-mail to dan209@stx.it.com Deadline is Thursday, May 19th.

Check in: 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Pre-registered players must pay on time or they will be dropped. Please be on time!

Late registration: Same time as check in. Late registrants get a ½ point bye in round 1 and pay a higher entry fee.

First round: 9:30 a.m. TD reserves the right to modify time limits and rounds. Awards: 2:00 p.m.

Tie-breakers: Solkoff, cumulative & cumulative of opposition. (If round-robin, then Sonneborn-Berger & head-to-head).

Time limit: game/30. Games may be speeded-up or adjudicated if necessary. Decision is at TD's discretion.

Entry Fee: $7.00 if pre-registered. Late registration is $10.00 with ½ point bye for first round.

Prizes: Individual trophies to 1st-3rd and medals for 4th-6th in each of the four scholastic section. Individual medals to 1st-3rd in the special adult/college section. Additionally, certificates to all players scoring 2.5+ or better who do not qualify for a trophy or medal.



Notes: Concessions will be sold. Please support the school clubs by purchasing food and drink on site. WinTD program will be used. Chess equipment will be on sale. There will be a raffle for free door prizes (3 chess-related collectibles) donated by Dan Navarro. Sponsors are encouraged to e-mail batch forms early. Thank you!
